CELEBRATING LIFE’S FINEST MOMENTS WITH CHRISTINA CAP CLASSIQUE

For winemaker Danelle Conradie, life, much like Cap Classique, is about balance, enduring patience, and unwavering focus. With nearly 30 years of experience, locally and abroad, she brings a mix of meticulous detailing, deep knowledge and creative energy to Christina Cap Classique, the apex collection of Van Loveren Family Vineyards in Robertson.

Danelle’s story is one of perseverance and passion. From her early experiences in the Cape, to harvests across Australia and Switzerland, the exploration of France’s wine regions, and finally back to South Africa where she worked with some of the country’s most respected names – her journey has always been defined by the closest attention. “There are no shortcuts in winemaking,” she says. “You do the work, you stay close to the vines and the wines, and you trust the process. Hands-on is the name of the game.”

That commitment has paid off in the glass. Today, the Christina Cap Classique Brut NV and Brut Rosé NV sparkle at the pinnacle of South African bubbly, consistently celebrated with awards such as gold at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025 and double gold at Veritas Awards 2024. These are wines that capture both elegance and generosity: crisp yet refined, with flavours of red apple, citrus peel, biscuit, and lime carried by soft, fine bubbles.

The Christina range takes its name from the original family matriarch Christina van Loveren, who came to the Cape in 1699 from Holland. Her legacy, symbolised by the bridal chest she brought with her to South Africa, still stands proudly at Van Loveren today. Inspired by her spirit, the Christina Collection has grown into an ultra-premium showcase of heritage and style: elegant barrel-fermented whites and reds, a 10-year-old potstill brandy, and of course, the celebrated Cap Classiques.

For Danelle, every bottle begins with the vines. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are hand-picked from older vineyards in mid-January, when sugars are at the perfect point for freshness. After fermentation and long ageing on the lees, the result is a Cap Classique that is as much about texture and refinement as it is about vibrancy and flavour. “It’s all about balance,” she explains. “The Chardonnay brings the brightness and longevity; the Pinot Noir adds fruit and richness. Together, they create harmony.”

The wines are as versatile as they are refined. Whether paired with oysters at sunset, enjoyed with sushi on a summer evening, or simply poured as a celebratory toast, Christina Cap Classique is designed for life’s finer moments.

And while the Cap Classiques sparkle in the spotlight, the rest of the Christina Collection shines just as brightly. The Sauvignon Blanc is crafted in ceramic eggs, encouraging natural circulation during fermentation and enhancing its distinctive flinty minerality, while Chardonnay and the red wines mature in oak for depth, texture and structure. Alongside these stands the patiently matured Christina 10-year-old potstill brandy, completing a portfolio that invites discovery.

Behind it all is Danelle’s steady hand and her belief that excellence comes only through dedication. “For me, winemaking has always been personal,” she says. “It’s about putting in the work, staying present with every step, and crafting wines that people will remember at their most special occasions.”
